Why couldn’t the Bucks make it to the NBA play-off finals? (Part 1)

Two years in a row with the best record of the main season, but the Milwaukee Bucks failed to compete for a ticket to the play-off final because it refused to change the game.

Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo won the title of Best Player NBA 2019 and is likely to successfully defend the title this season. But that was not enough to bring the Milwaukee Bucks to the Larry O’Brien trophy. They lost to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern final last year before being defeated by the Miami Heat in this year’s regional semi-finals.

It was an unacceptable result for the team with the best results of the main season in both years. Even the Bucks are leading in both attack and defense stats this season. So what caused them to go astray in the playoffs?

In just 20 short seconds, Draymond Green described every problem Giannis Antetokounmpo faced. It was also the problem that previous MVPs like James Harden and Russell Westbrook faced over the years – a period where Green and his Golden State Warriors team reached the NBA final five times in a row, winning three championships.

According to Green – the best defensive player in NBA 2017, the teams competing for the championship do not feature satellites around Antetokounmpo, including Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Eric Bledsoe.

That means that the Bucks have no second attacking option besides the Greek superstar. In the play-off round, few teams succeed with only one star, because many stars mean that the opponent will have to spread the defense front.

Khris Middleton could not do well with Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks lost three consecutive games in the Eastern semi-finals, but coach Mike Budenholzer made no changes to reduce the pressure on Antetokounmpo. The same thing happened in the regional finals last year when the Toronto Raptors captured a star born in 1994 and won four games in a row.

While the Wisconsin football team broke record after record in the main season, they seem to have forgotten to have to build options B for the play-off phase, where half-court battles and clock 24. The seconds go better than quick counter-attacks – which the Bucks do best in the tournament.

Bucks won after losing the first three games in the NBA semi-finals

Milwaukee Bucks’ number one seed defeated the Miami Heat 118-115 in game four of the Eastern semi-finals on September 7, shortening the overall score 1-3 in the series.

Bucks suffered losses at the start of the second half when superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo relapsed with an ankle injury. The best player in NBA 2019 only played 11 minutes of this match but scored 19 points.

When Antetokounmpo left the field, Khris Middleton became the main scorer of the East group’s top team. The 29-year-old shined with 21 points in the third half, the game he scored the most in his career. In extra time, Middleton netted nine of the team’s 11 points, fixing the Bucks’ first win in the Eastern Semifinals this year.

Failure in the series was at times close to the Bucks, as they were led by fifth seed Heat 100-92 in the middle of the fourth half. But the Bucks’ effort brought the four main innings to a close 107-107. In extra time, seed number one won 11-8 to win 118-115.

The Bucks’ reserve overwhelmed the opponent in this match with 32 points compared to 17 of the opponent. Tyler Herro was the substitute to score the most points for Heat with 11 points, including three important long shots at the end of the fourth and extra time, but failed to help the home team win.

The Milwaukee Bucks will have to win all three next games to reach the East Final, while the Miami Heat only needs one more win. None of the teams that were led 0-3 have won backward in the NBA play-off.

A dramatic ending in the first round of the NBA play-off

The match between West Houston Rockets’ fourth seed and Oklahoma City Thunder number five was the final series of NBA play-off round 1. The Rockets won the first two games, but Thunder won three of the next four to bring the series into game 7.

Lower Thunder 4-3 after seven games, the Rockets entered the Western semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The first game of this series started on the morning of September 5. Before that, West Lakers number one won eighth seed Portland Trail Blazers 4-1.

The duel between western third seed Denver Nuggets and sixth seed Utah Jazz also ended in game seven. In the decisive match, the two sides defended closely. In the end, the Nuggets won 80-78 and won a ticket to the Western semifinals against second seed Los Angeles Clippers.
